Hi Randy, It is very surprising. What do you mean by marriage in the U.S.? Civil Marriage? Civil marriage plus church wedding? or is there among you "only" church wedding with all the rights? Church or similar marriages could explain the possibility of cousin marriages. For example: Two classmates of mine got married at the age of 16 years in "Gretna Green", a blacksmith in Scotland. There they need no permission of parents or an authority. Nikki
Hi Nikki; In America, because there are certain financial changes that occur with a marriage, all marriages are at the will of the state. The clergy will even say "by the power invested in me by the state of ____" often times. So, the actual place of the wedding in as far as a church or someone's home, a wheat field or even the court house, it all means the same based on the marriage license.
