Hi Friends;
I began this blog to begin to understand a bit more about me. Who I was/am, and how can I be more? I thought that along the way I would share some things that I read, things that interest me and share my thoughts on them, hoping to hear the thoughts of others. At times I've found things that just break my heart, that make me angry, or even joyful. But, there is something going on in this country that just has me baffled.
Like most of us, I read about the "Junkyard Prophets" See Here - a conglomeration of terms that tells me more than would make that group comfortable - going into a school, a general assembly, and sharing a message of hope? No. Of peace? No. Of uplifting and positive direction? No.
Of indoctrination? Yep!
Somehow, this school felt that the students were so far ahead of the curve on Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Logic, Government and Social issues that it needed time for hatred, indoctrination, anger and bigotry. Who knew the American students were so far along.
But, what has me lost is... why? Why is there such a hatred for that which is different? Why are people so willing to be mean and nasty to a relatively small segment of society? Why so much energy?
For a breeder, the absence of other challenging males ought to engender sublime joy! All the more females for him, right? For a Christian, it isn't an issue of public law or direction of the social construct of a country, it's about a relationship with his/her Creator. For a patriot, seeking to strengthen a country... what has my bedroom got to do with it? There are gays in the military - have been forever. Remember the Spartans? Being gay has nothing to do with pulling a trigger - as our military effectiveness with gays in the service demonstrates. But further, for a true patriot, the ideals of this country would demand that he/she stand up for the rights of citizens; for Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness - not seek to take it away for religious reasons. That's antithetical to the creation of the country!
I'm feeling really dejected and lonely about all of this. It seems to leave an ache in me that I just can't explain. I'm past anger, outrage. I'm sliding head long into nausea as I read these stories and I just keep asking why. Why, my friends, is this such an issue?

Hello Randy
It is depressing, but it's also relatively easy to explain, in my opinion - it's about a section of the population who are used to ruling the roost doing all they can to maintain their power and influence, and, in the upper echelons at least, wealth. And what better way to direct attention away from what they're actually doing, and how they're oppressing the rank and file, than to point to and victimise a convenient scapegoat group? It used to be blacks, now it's gays, if gays become more generally accepted, they'll find some other group to attack. If only the sheep-like masses would 'rise up' and find that they 'have nothing to lose but their chains.
Love & best wishes

Hallo Randy,
Hallo Sammy,
I have been following this discussion on "milkboys". There is much talk. But once something is said against the "system America", the "patriots" rant against it.
I do not understand patriotism. Patriotism (and religion) to me is the root of all evil. The Nazis have the word "Vaterland / fatherland" abused so much.
How can these charlatans get permission to act in a public school like this? And how can it be that the student body tolerates this?

Hello All. A couple of thoughts, as those are all I really can afford to spare...LOL
Ok I was in the service in the early 1980's. During that time we were taught, and we believed, that we may not do or believe as others, but we were serving to ensure their right to do or believe as they wished. We swore our oath to the Constitution , not to ideology of any kind. That has all changed. I have relatives that are in the service. Now the pressures are to conform, certain religions are pushed hard, and the idea is how to spread "our" way to the rest of the world...including our own population and country. The attitude has become that the military is some how more in charge than the civilian populations. Better than the civilian population.
As for why some people try to force others to be as them. Several points. Some believe that to endear themselves to their God they have to Force others to believe as they do....Getting more members means your more powerful, more right, and inflates and satisfies your ego. The idea of "I belong to the biggest club, have the biggest car, am the most important ..." Do as I do as I am so correct and right.
That may be due to many reasons from ego to fear of not being important.
Organised religion has always struck me as a behavioral modification tool. From day one it told you how to behave, it told you how to eat, to dress, to fulfill the idea of those in charge how things should be done. It gives all authority to those in upper positions and tell the population if they do all the things the leaders want them to, sacrifice all for the leaders, then their reward will come...much later after death. The leaders get their reward now, while the people get theirs after they die? Seems one sided to me.
Now as to faith...that is different..that comes from with in. That is real and true. And I wont mock that. But any organisation designed to favor only those at the top and deny the general population any say or rights, that is one I will ridicule.
OK..Chin up brother...if we give up they win...if we take it in and make it part of us they win...if we stop trying they win. We don't have to stand on street corners and shout our sermon, we can start in our daily lives by living what we believe, by doing what we think is right and should be done. I force no one to think as I do, but I don't let statements of co-workers go unanswered that should be addressed. They have the right to their opinion, and I have the right to respond. I spend my money in places that support my own ideas, I use my blog to say what I feel should be said, my life itself is a statement to my beliefs.
I think that is the only way to really spread a message, in our own life. Let our life be the book others can read. Let our actions speak louder than any words.
I just hope I can be a better person today than I was yesterday, that today I can do a little more to help, to better the world I live in, to make more of a difference to some one. To be the best human I can be. To be me. Hugs
Thank you all for your wonderful comments. I often prefer to acknowledge your comments individually, but I just want to let your words stand for themselves. Thank you for the understanding, the thought provoking, and the uplifting.
Hugs all!

Hi Randy,
It's been a while but I thought I should comment on this. I think human behaviour can actually explain part of this. When a rat is no longer rewarded for a behaviour that was previously rewarded, what happens is that the rat tries the same behaviour with greater frequency and urgency. This is called an extinction reaction and I think that is what is happening with the resident bigots of North America. Their seething racism, once common, is no longer socially acceptable, so the bile and hatred is becoming louder and more intense. If no one actually listens to these people, or at least doesn't give them what they want, eventually this will go away as society very slowly changes.
At least that's my optimistic view, safely outside of the American Insanity Zone.
Hugs,
Evan
Hi Evan;
... You make me wish I lived similarly - at least for the moment. My problem with that theory is that there are just enough bigots, haters and holier-than-thou's to keep the fire self feeding.
I do think that this is a reaction, a way in which an issue becomes greater and greater in the mainstream. I think about the furvor during the civil rights years and how that very passion seems to have died away as the "goal" came closer.
I think there is a segment of people who like to hate. Can you imagine a worse thing to say of someone, but there it is. I also think that there are a majority who prefer to just let live ... and I'm looking forward to that point of freedom.
Thank you for commenting.
